In this talk, Amalia Mesa-Bains discusses contemporary Chicano/a innovations on traditional Day of the Dead work through community-based and collective practices.

Through exhibitions and art works Mesa-Bains examines the introduction of experimental media, political activism, indigenous spirituality and expansion of ofrendas, public spectacle.and ritual ceremonies. From the Mesoamerican to the modern, Mexican practices of honoring the dead have bound together generations honoring their families.
