Gibson, miembro del Grupo Misisipiano de Indios Choctaw y descendiente de cheroquis, responde a los retratos de ind\u00edgenas del siglo XIX de la colecci\u00f3n de la Biblioteca Newberry. Sus pinturas y su papel tapiz refutan el simbolismo etnogr\u00e1fico con capas vibrantes y brillantes.
